ISO management system preparation and certification support
ISO certification in Nigeria
Build the management system your tender or client expects and take it through an independent certification audit. We help you select the correct standard, prepare the documents, put the procedures into use and work with an accredited certification body.
Why do oil and gas companies request ISO certification?
Operators use management system certificates to check whether a supplier has documented controls for quality, environmental impact, health and safety or information security. The required standard should match the contract and the risk behind the work.
Certification strengthens a tender file only when the certificate scope covers the service being offered. Review the NUPRC permit application requirements as well if the same upstream service needs a current regulatory permit.
Companies that benefit from ISO certification
- Oil and gas service contractors
- Engineering and construction companies
- Manufacturers and equipment suppliers
- Marine, logistics and facility operators
- Technology and professional service companies
Which ISO standard does your company need?
A tender may request one standard or an integrated system. Start with the risks and customer requirements instead of buying several certificates that do not fit the company’s work.
ISO 9001 quality management
For companies that need consistent processes, controlled records, customer focus and a system for correcting problems and improving service delivery.
ISO 14001 environmental management
For businesses that must identify environmental aspects, meet compliance obligations and control waste, emissions, spills and resource use.
ISO 45001 health and safety
For organisations that need a structured occupational health and safety system covering hazards, worker participation, incidents and operational controls.
ISO certification requirements
A certification body audits the system in practice. Policies and manuals help, but the company must also show records that prove the procedures are being used.
Defined certification scope, sites, activities and selected ISO standard
Approved policies, objectives, procedures and controlled documented information
Risk, legal obligation and operational control records
Staff competence, awareness and training evidence
Internal audit, management review and performance monitoring records
Corrective actions and evidence that the system has been implemented
How to get ISO certification in Nigeria
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria publishes the management system route to certification. The process includes implementation, internal review, a stage one documentation audit and a stage two implementation audit before the certification decision.
1. Select the standard and scope
Confirm the tender requirement, company activities, sites and services that the certificate must cover.
2. Build the management system
Prepare the required policies, procedures, registers, objectives and operational controls around the actual business.
3. Implement and collect records
Train staff, use the procedures, monitor results and keep enough evidence to show the system works.
4. Complete internal review
Run the internal audit and management review, then close identified nonconformities before the external audit.
5. Complete certification audits
Work through stage one and stage two audits, close findings and receive the certificate after an independent decision.
What delays ISO certification?
Most delays appear when a company prepares documents but has no operating records. An auditor needs to see that staff use the system and that management reviews real performance information.
ISO does not issue certificates. Check the certification body’s identity, accreditation and certificate verification route before signing a contract.
The selected standard or certificate scope does not match the tender requirement.
Policies and procedures were copied without adapting them to the company.
Staff have not been trained and cannot explain their responsibilities.
Internal audits, management reviews or corrective actions are missing.
The company chooses a certificate provider without checking accreditation or recognition.
How we handle your ISO certification project
We prepare an auditable management system around the company’s real work. The objective is a certificate that can be verified and defended during vendor qualification.
Use the right certificate for the right tender
ISO certification is one part of a compliance file. Review the other permits and registrations we process before assuming a quality or safety certificate replaces a regulator or operator approval.
ISO certification FAQs
These answers cover certification bodies, common standards, processing steps, cost, validity and certificate verification.
What is ISO certification?
Certification is written assurance from an independent certification body that a management system meets the requirements of a named ISO standard within a stated scope.
Does ISO issue certificates?
No. The International Organization for Standardization develops standards but does not audit companies or issue certificates. External certification bodies perform that work.
Which ISO certification is best for an oil and gas company?
ISO 9001 covers quality management, ISO 14001 covers environmental management and ISO 45001 covers occupational health and safety. The best choice depends on the tender, service risk and customer requirement.
What are the requirements for ISO certification?
The company needs a defined scope, documented system, trained staff, operational records, performance monitoring, internal audit, management review and corrective action before the external audit.
How long does ISO certification take?
The timeline depends on company size, sites, current maturity and the evidence already available. A company starting from nothing usually needs time to implement the system and create records before the certification audit.
How do I verify an ISO certificate?
Check the standard, scope, company name, site, certificate number, dates and issuing certification body. Confirm the record with the certification body or an accepted accreditation database.
How much is ISO certification in Nigeria?
There is no fixed official price. The SON certification policy states that application is free, while audit fees depend on auditor time and logistics are charged separately. The certification body must prepare a company specific quotation. Visit or contact us before payment so we can define the correct scope and help you avoid paying for an unrecognised certificate.
How long is an ISO certificate valid?
SON describes a renewable three year certification cycle with yearly surveillance audits. The certificate can be suspended or withdrawn if the organisation fails to maintain the system or complete required audits.
Can a small company obtain ISO certification?
Yes. The system should fit the company’s size, activities and risks. A small company still needs to implement the applicable requirements and present records during an independent audit.
